The story behind the piece
The elegance of a crowded ballroom.
At the turn of the twentieth century, floral motifs and finely worked diamond settings brought a lace-like richness to evening jewellery. This suite brings together a dense French collar design and the rounded clusters of Edwardian earrings and rings.
François Flameng’s 1908 portrait of Queen Alexandra captures the period’s lavish approach to dressing: a white gown, blue sash and layered jewels. Its atmosphere informs the suite’s sense of occasion.
A portrait of the same period. Alexandra’s painted necklace is a different jewel; the image supplies historical atmosphere, not ownership of this suite.
